Meet Benjamin

Benjamin Klaassen

M.S., LPC, EMDR Trained

You feel like there is something wrong with you. Maybe you can identify it or maybe it is a deep feeling of knowing you have. You rationalize all the terrible things that have happened to you by identifying with the belief that it all happened because “I am worthless”, “I am bad person”, “It is my fault” or that because of those terrible things that happen to you, now you are worthless, a bad person, or it is was your fault.

There is a part of you that knows that these beliefs you have cannot possibly be accurate, but no matter what you have tried, you can not shake the feeling that they are true. The truth is that there is nothing fundamentally wrong with you. The truth is that you have been hurt and still have wounds that have never been properly addressed with nurturing and love.

Your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and beliefs that cause you pain and suffering are actually extremely adaptive and well meaning attempts to protect and care for yourself, but sometimes happen to be unwise or misguided. You were always meant to be treated with dignity, respect, protection, and love. The failure to have received these needs belongs to those who hurt you, not on you. I can help you learn how to love wisely. This means to learn yourself intimately and accurately, maybe for the first time in your life, and to put action to the intention to treat yourself the way you deserve and need to be treated.

My clients first experience how to love wisely by receiving it from me in the context of the therapeutic relationship. My clients typically come to see me weekly and find that my gentle, compassionate, and often humorous conversational style helps them feel safe and at ease. I help clients cultivate the wisdom needed to love yourself and others by using current empirically supported interventions such as EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and by integrating historical and current philosophical practices and wisdom traditions designed to mediate self transcendence and growth.

It is okay to be scared. I am here for you and will take this journey with you. All you need is the courage to take the first step to ask for help. If this sounds like you or resonates with your story, schedule a free 15-minute consultation and together we will figure out what your next step is.
