Thrizer v. Reimbursify v. Mentaya Which reimbursement platform is best?

Getting you money back for your therapy is important to us. We did the work to figure the best way.

We’ve been planning to get rid of Out-of-Network billing since July of 2025. Why you might ask? Turns out, when we are involved, clients payments can get hung up in the liminal space between insurance, third party payers, us, and most importantly you. Our goal, as good therapists in Denton, TX, is to get you paid ASAP. So, we’ve decided to do a deep dive into reimbursement platforms, helping you determine which is the best choice for you and your family. We stay out of it, but these options allow you to pay a small fee to have a company that specializes in reimbursement help you get your claims reimbursed. My personal opinion is, just submit directly to the insurance company and save on the fee. But a lot of you busy folks out there don’t have time or don’t want to fight with the insurance company. Side note: I once fought with my insurance company for 11 months to get THOUSANDS of dollars back for a surgery the hospital made me pay for twice. Maybe this is helping paint a picture of why we are out of network providers at Well Culture Counseling. Small businesses don’t have the man power to both bring you great therapy and fight with insurance companies. Back on topic. If you choose to use a reimbursement platform here are a few I would consider. There are many out there but these 3 yielded top results when I did my research: Mentaya, Reimbursify, and Thrizer.

A quick vocabulary breakdown for this blog:

Claim: a single session submitted to the insurance company

Superbill: a document from you therapist that note each session’s: date, place of service, service code, diagnosis code, description of service, units of service, fee, and amount the client has paid

Here’s what we evaluated for:

  1. Can you submit a claim without your therapist having an account and uploading information on their end? We think this is important because we don’t want to mess up your reimbursement as previously stated. Us staying out of it will lead to better processing of claims, and will ensure you don’t have to wait on us to start looking for reimbursement.

  2. Do they accept Superbills to submit claims for you? We have our system set up to automatically send you a superbill via email on the 3rd (or earlier) each month. This means you should have everything you need in one document at your fingertips. Platforms that use this easy document will help you submit with less of a headache.

  3. How do you get reimbursed by your insurance? This is important to know. Are you getting reimbursed by check, through direct deposits, or someother way? We want you to have a clear idea of how you will recive your money.

  4. Do they offer a free first claim? I love getting to decide if something works for me with a trial. When you get to file your first claim for free, this means you have the opportunity to decide if it’s a fit before giving them any money.

  5. Does the company have a mobile app? We all know that mobile apps can help immensely when we’re trying to do things the quick and easy way. If you can do it from your phone, hopefully that will simplify things even more.

  6. Lastly, and most important, how much does it cost? I said this earlier, but I want to reiterate. I love FREE, which direct submission is, however you may need to be more diligent about checking on your reimbursement status in your insurance’s claims portal. We hope to bring you the most affordable reimbursement solutions.

Out Of Network Therapy Reimbursement Options

The Brass Tax of getting your money’s worth.

So, how much should you expect to pay for a session at Well Culture Counseling? In 2026, our fees are $165 for an intake and $150 for a regular session with all of our fully licensed counselors. Here’s the break down:

  1. Mentaya: For an intake reimbursement you pay $8.25 and evert additional claim is $7.50.

  2. Reimbursify: You pay a flat fee of $3.99 per claim, however they have a special, if you want to submit quarterly, where you can get 10 claims for $29.99, which shakes out to $2.99 per claim, saving you $10.

  3. Thrizer: So this one is a little tricky. You pay $2 per claim until you hit your deductible. Once you hit your deductible they tack on a 1% fee of the superbill total, in plain English, for each session. For us that $1.50 per regular session, not intakes. Once you’ve hit your deductible you will be paying $3.50 per claim, as of 2026.

Unfortunately, the best deal now comes down to… it depends. Is it worth it to wait and file quarterly with Reimbursify and have 10 sessions(or more) of money tied up with insurance? Or do you want to file monthly with Thrizer and get the money back quicker? Depending on your session frequency and financial situation there ore different ways to determine the best deal.

Our recommendation for a reimbursement provider.

While I still prefer directly filing with insurance, I know many of you are busy and need someone working for you to get your money back. For that I would recommend Thrizer. It seems they have the best fees for a monthly superbill submissions. I can’t speak to their turn around for claims, but I would hope it is quicker than waiting for your insurance to process it on their on timeline.
